Default cut and paste?

I'm sure this a basic function in the edit mode but I still have a question which I'm hoping someone can shed some light for me. I have 2 vocal tracks, and want to pick and choose parts from each to make one final track, if I cut and paste how can I be sure the paste is made in time with the track, in other words some of my pastes where not exact and the vocal sounded a little behind the music, how can I be certain other than using my ears that the vox are lined up in the right spot? Is it easier to do a new audio track composite or choose one of the vocal tracks and cut and paste on that?
Thanks

dont worry about overlapping audio, cntrl+grabber locks the region from sliding horizontally when moving.

If your tracks are duplicate takes or more, learning how to use playlists will make this process simple and powerful.
