Default limited playback

im using essential 8 on a pretty old computor . playback will work fine if im calling up a track with say 10 tracks on but as soon as i call up a track which has sixteen in use it just makes a horrendous noise like a window smashing . didnt used to happen . any ideas how to sort many thanks
