Question Problems with ProTools 8

Hi!
After I installed the dvd upgrade to Pro Tools 8 LE and I registered, everytime I open Pro Tools the program crashes and will not allow me to open any session, track...nothing. No message appears on screen, the program just crashes.
I have an Mbox 2 to use the program and, of course, the ilok as well.
I always have to open the Force Quit window to find that the program is not responding.
Please help! I dont understand why the program will not run.
My laptop is a MacBook Pro with Mac OS X (10.5.8), with a 2.53 GHz intel duo core processor and 4 GB.

My first guess is that you have an incompatible plugin.

Question Re: Problems with ProTools 8

Hi again.
Not exactly lack of plug-in compatibility, I checked the Pro Tools folders in the finder and I found that many of the files were installed as "Unix executable files" (with the following extensions: .grv, .big, .abf, .avr).
I have no idea why this happened and I would like to hear suggestions as how to solve this.
Greetings.

there is an uninstaller for pro tools on the installation disk. use it to remove PT from your system.

empty trash, reboot. reinstall pro tools. then use the disk utility to repair permissions on your system drive.

I would also suggest deleting all your preference files and databases. The troubleshooting post has all the info on how to do this.

+1 for that. Meanwhile, try to open a session while holding the SHIFT key down. This will open the session with all plugins disabled. If the session opens and runs that way, that would point to a bad plugin as mentioned(just an easy way to rule it out).
