Subscription
Hello guys.
My name is Hatim 25 years old, next year in exactly 6 months I will be attending concordia university for the Electroacoustic program. but the only thing I miss is a track a good portfolio. so in 6 months I will have to creat a music. Music always been my passion. specially composing music for video games. pro tools is the best way to start. but in my : local store they sell pro tools for 800$ on the website they sell it for 600 $ there is also a subscription for 24.92$ per months Now for sure I am more interested in the subscription method but the question is for how long Ill be paying the 24.92$ ? is it until i fully pay the whol price ( wich is 600 ) and then ill just own Pro tools for the rest of my life ? because I dont mind paying this price per month but is it like a contract ? like 24.92$ per month for a year or 2 ? and then juste own the software ? thank you guys I will really appreciate your advices I am trying to get protools now but not just for now for later as a professional. |

Re: Subscription
He's looking at Canadian Dollar pricing, yours is US pricing.
To the OP, PT's subscription is just that, a subscription. As long as you pay you get to play. Stop paying and PT stops working at the end of the time period you've paid for. Like a magazine subscription, you have to keep paying to get the magazine. Purchasing PT as a perpetual license means you own it, but to keep it up-to-date you'll be paying an annual fee. You may want to initially go the subscription route to see if PT is what you want/need and, just as important, that PT will work on your computer of choice. Remember, PT is a DIVA (Avid spelled backwards) and is NOT plug-and-play on any off-the-shelf computer in the Windows world and is still picky on Mac. You should post your computer specs to have people advise you - see the Help Us Help You link at the top of each Forum page.

Re: Subscription
If you are going to be a student then you may be eligible for student pricing.
http://www.avid.com/avid-for-education/pricing I myself prefer Perpetual licenses so you will always have Pro Tools even if you do not get an upgrade plan. But subscription is good for some as well, depends on the need. You can check out Pro Tools | First for free until you decide. Just know that the full version has many more features, but First should get you going.

Re: Subscription
If you are going to use Pro Tools in class I would get teh full version now, maybe just subscription so you are well ahead before starting. Pro Tools | First is very crippled and for many folks beyond useless... for example cannot save/open existing Pro Tools sessions.

Also if you subscribe to the full version now you will probably be eligable for a Student License when you are closing in on the semester. Check this out with Avid reseller before you commit to anything more than the $25 / Month Sub.

Re: Subscription
Thank you guys I decided to buy the full version and then "maybe" pay an annual fee ( wich I dont know how it cost )
this is best for me I am paying already too many bills per months so no more subscriptions. and I have a gaming pc for Asus ROG. but I am planing to buy a new mac. I hate Macs but iv heard they are the best platform for protools especially for DJs and Electonic music Composers. so i don't know should I buy a mac ? any ideas ? |

Re: Subscription
See the Help Us Help You above and post a Sandra Report on the Asus. Also make sure, if you plan on using it, that you do all the Avid Optimizations and have a second hard drive to record your sessions too. And, if you don't have any money, buying a Mac isn't going to help that <:-]

Re: Subscription
okay just on more question.
when you buy the perpetual licence it comes with 12 months subscription to keep it updated. I have found this : https://www.amazon.ca/Avid-Perpetual...words=protools I did not yet apply to university for Electroacoustic program yet. I have to deal with other things before and prepare my portfolio so I am not officially a student when I buy a perpetual license can I keep it up to date like I don't know once a year ? like just pay one months to update my protools and that it like I dont have to sign a contract and pay every months ? or is it like an annual fee! I know I sound like a newbie but you guys are a big help to me |
