The best way IMO, to get a bunch of decent mics just to have around is to buy a little Drum mic kit... Usually comes with one mic just for kick (can be used for bass cabs too), some decent dynamics for toms snare etc, and some condensers for overheads... I've got a cheap nady set and they sound fine.. I use the low dyn for the kick, others for the toms, but yes, a sm57 on the snare... The condensers work fine for OH's but I prefer a couple of LDC Mxls ... I've also been able to use those tom dyn's on gtr cabs, sound great.. Its a cheap and easy way to get a bunch of mics.... A nice large diaphraghm condenser on the classical gtr, .. if you can take the bass stright in, guranteed a decent sound if its a nice bass... some more Large diaphragm condensers on the piano, I like my pair of rodes on piano.. .. and if your doing the vocals with the band something like an sm58, or if your tracking later any Large diaprghm condenser...
If you want more specifi mic names, helps us out with how much your willing to spend total....

I've never gotten a usable bottom snare sound.. Even with blending..... just me maybe.... My new fav for overheads.. If in a studio that has one, c24 turned to 90 degrees. BEAUTIFUL

to all of 'em: A good sounding condenser mic with multiple characteristics.

A dynamic mic like sure sm57 or 58 are easy to handle specially when regarding bleeding. But a condenser place correctly is unbeatable. However, mics are as subjective as colors and eq's - so it all depends on who you ask...
