Default Pro Tools 10 vs 12 Stability

Has anyone else noticed that Pro Tools 12 (and 11) is way less stable with lower buffer settings than in version 10?

I can run Pro Tools HD Native v10 @ 32 samples with 150+ tracks and plugins with no drama but I need at least 256 samples for the same sessions in either v11 or v12.

Is anyone else experiencing this?

I'm currently using 10 for tracking and editing and then 12 for mixing. 10 is way more responsive when it comes to editing, i.e. beat detective, whereas 12 is sluggish. On the flip side 12 is rock solid for mixing and I can run 50% more plugins than I can in 10.

I never ran HDN on v10....but yes...my buffer struggles to run at 128.

and this with no VI's.......no so big a session 30 or so tracks....working on the finishing touches.....maybe a few more overdubs....but i would like to see it at 64 consistently....44.1k at the moment.

I have just disabled Hyper Threading due to another probably unrelated issue.........so I don't know if that will affect the buffer size or not.....

I've tried literally everything to get it as stable as 10 including disabling hyperthreading but to no avail.

Try installing 10 and see the difference for yourself!

same here - can't get the buffer down as low for tracking with out errors - never had issue on PT 10 with one processor dedicated to the OS. I've just reinstalled PT 10 on Yosemite using a workaround free/ shareware OSX app called 'Pacifist' to extract the installer contents and copy over manually- works fine after smoothing out a few kinks!

I find similar here on a Windows-based HDN setup. PT10 and 11 are really solid, but 12 sucks wind(and I try every .x update too) Too bad as the new features are things I really want to use

This subject always drives me crazy when I get into discussions about latency in HDN is still a problem.

Some folks around here including a couple of moderators say they never have latency issues with HDN. As you can see by my signature I'm still TDM. I bought a used HDN card a while back and tried it with 11 and had latency issues when doing overdubs through plugins and sends on my typical sessions. No way I was going to use LLM, why when I have TDM where it's a non issue?

For me, there is simply no compelling reasons, considering the limitations described in this thread to leave TDM for HDN.

Same issue here with the native version of PT11/12. I tried it on my kids computer to see, not useable for me.

If you're talking about the insert menus that's a known issue and won't be fixed.

You're having issues with the menus in PT11/12 in Yosemite? Shouldn't happen. I do remember when I tried PT11.3.1 in Yosemite it was never stable enough for serious work.
