Default DaVinci Resolve AAF problems

Hoping someone has some insight here. Working on two new projects that are being edited in DaVinci Resolve. The AAFs coming from Resolve are problematic:

the good:

•all the media including video is delivered as MXF files. Relinking in Pro Tools works fine, most clips fall onto the timeline where they should be.

the bad:

•fades and crossfades don't make it into the AAF at all. Only edits.
•clip gain seems to be dropped (usually I don't want it, so no big deal).
•automation is almost non-existent (usually I don't want it, so no big deal).

the ugly:

•clips on some tracks are way out of sync. We're working now to determine why this occurs on some tracks and not others. Thoughts?

I just spent the last 5 days trying to get an AAF from DaVinci. It finally worked. I’ll find out from the editor what he did to make it work.

Check to see if the amount you are out of sync equals the amount of handles. At one point we had about 4 seconds of handles, but each clip would instead shift by 4 seconds and begin without handles.

Also make sure that you include video in the export. We called Blackmagic and you always have to include the video in AAF export or it all goes haywire.

For now, I've requested that flat files be sent in addition to the AAF. I'm not a Resolve user, but it seems that a big poly WAV file of the whole thing can be sent pretty easily. I throw that up next to the AAF and look at the waveforms for discrepancies. Not a great way to work, but for half hour TV it takes an extra 15min to check. Fades? fuhgeddaboudit.

Hey, did you find out what the correct settings to export an AAF from Resolve are? Just found out my new feature is editing in Resolve so would be good to give the dialogue editor a leg up! Thanks.

Managed without video just fine. In 14 you do have to select the video option to add handles then disable it.

12.5 was more reliable in this respect. You can always open a project from 14 in 12.5 for AAF export.

Hi Nathaniel,
What version of PT are you using?
AVID MC had an update last year and some AAFs were going out of sync as you described unless it was opened in PT 12.5 or over.
I think it's something to do with mixed frame rate material.

I've stayed pretty current with PT releases, so it was 12.8.x or 18 that I was using when I first posted. (18.3 rocks, btw). Because I'm not a Resolve user, I've given up trying to figure this out and I'm simply asking for a poly WAV in addition to an AAF when media is coming from Resolve. Blackmagic has to get serious and figure this out.

I've had nothing but problems exporting a working AAF from Resolve. I even had to export the project to Premiere (using XML) and then export from there. I'm really hoping they update this as it looks like Resolve is becoming a go to editing platform

Reports of AAF export working in the beta of Resolve15

https://forum.blackmagicdesign.com/v...it=Aaf#p403553

Although also reports of incorrect audio assignments:

https://forum.blackmagicdesign.com/v...it=AAF#p406555

I’ll try and do some test exports today
