1. Overclock the i7-920 (caution...)
2. Replace i7-920 with i7-980X

This, and replace the system drive with a Samsung 850 EVO or PRO, but don't expect a miracle. Everything on this computer is relatively obsolete. I did the 980X upgrade on my i7 950 rig and it was a bit better, but was nowhere near the boost I got with a newer rig(x79 mobo, i7 3930K and 32GB of quad-channel RAM).

If you're lucky, you can probably bag a deal on a used combo(mobo/cpu/RAM) of the x79 rig I described, reuse your old case/PSU and drives(but do go for a fresh system drive SSD).

You should seriously consider one the UAD satellite units for running their own plug-ins. The choices from 3rd-party devs is very good now, and their own developed series are stunningly well modelled. It integrates into ProTools 10 very easily, and will give you a massive boost in processing power.

This is very true and the UA plugins sound very good(often the best emulations available). BUT, do enter that realm with eyes wide open. What I mean by that is:
A-the plugins are among the most expensive on the market
B-with a card(either PCIe, Firewire or Thunderbolt), all the UA plugins will have a fair amount of latency(around 1100 samples) so you will NOT be able to track with then active

well I have been having troubles here and there and now my computer will not start.I have a big choice to make .Either fix my old PC and beef it up with a SSD or buy a new PC that I can run more plugs on more power ..I have PT's 10 native and really don't need the added stuff that newer version have I don't think?not sure about that.I feel a little cornfused about this .I was looking at computers from Protools PC company and I was also looking at the Radar Studio but it gets expensive not sure what I want/Sandra on this page

I believe that converting VIs to audio is not only a good way to save resources but it is also a great way to move forward with our work.
