Default Update to 5.1.1 problem

Trying to update a PT system from 5.1 to 5.1.1 (or even 5.2) but the
installer quits telling me...

"Pro Tools software version 5.1 is required before this installation can
proceed"

Well, ProTools 5.1 software is installed but it just won't see it. I tried
the 5.2 updater with the same problem. I did the same upgrade on my other
system without the slightest problem.

Any clues would be greatly appreciated!
thanks,

The installer is seeing a non-stock install
of ProTools 5.1 This can be a alternate DAE
or Mixer plug-in, ProTools 5.1 cs3 or any other number of things. That easiest way to deal with this is:
1) Trash the Digidesign Folder
2) Trash the DAE folder ( You may want to remove the Plug-ins folder and Plug-ins settings folder and move them to the desktop
so after you re-install and update you can just drop in those Plug-ins and settings back to the new folders created by the install and manually run the plug-ins update from the installer )
3) System folder, trash all Digidesign Extentions and Control panel.
4) System folder, trash the ProTools preferences, Digisetup and DAE prefs folder.
5) Re-install ProTools 5.1
6) Run the 5.1.1 updater
