Default DIGI 002 Rack Is not Recognised by PT 8.0.4. Please Help!!!

Hello people

I have a DIGI 002 Rack. I have been using it for more than a year and it was working great with all the latest PT8 versions (8.0.4) and did all my recording, mixing, etc. However, a few weeks now out of the blue it came up with:

Unable to locate Digidesign hardware. Make sure your hardware is connected and turned on. Click "OK" when the hardware is ready.

However, I am using the 002 as my default windows audio card and it is working great, plus it also works with Ableton Live 8. Therefore, I am guessing it must be a ProTools-002 communication issue.

So far, i did a clean new installation, trashed manually the prefs (the TECH SUPPORT UTILITY never works for some reason coming up with a No PT Installation was found in the system (????) Why is that by the way???), disabled the 002 as my default audio driver, and god knows what else...

Don't know what else to try... Ive read some things about power cycle and about a power harness issue but no idea whats that all about (plus since its working as a windows audio card and ableton then i dont think its related...)

Please help me out as I am very frustrated with this issue and i need this piece of equipment for my work ASAP!!!.

Did this computer ever work or is it new? Usually, an intel cpu with an nVidia chipset is a recipe for failure. Also, can you verify that the 002 works on another system? Are you aware of the dreaded "power harness" issue? Which drive are you recording to?(should be the X: drive and not the F: drive). VIA firewire controllers are often not compatible. Wifi must be disabled when running PT(not you issue, but good info to have anyway).

No idea what you're on about about nVidia and Intel as its been working like a charm for 3 years now... Even Pro Tools has been working great for the last 2 years up to version 8.0.4...

I cannot verify that it works on another system as i cant get hold of another one, espexially with firewire port... However, my 002 does work as my default windows sound output at the moment and also for Ableton Live as well...

My firewire controller was working great with PT so far without the slightest issue... the driver that I am using for it anyway is not the VIA one but the plain 1394 OHCI (Legacy)... plus I have already tried all of the other options... and no result...

As for the wifi, it never was a problem at all as like i said with that exact system I've been recording for 2 years now without an issue...

I dont know about the power harness issue in detail and as for the X: Drive, its an external hard drive that I use for storage only via SATA cable... no room there...

My system has been working great with the same chipset, same drive, same wifi on, and everything...

Some oddities for sure. Since the 002 passes audio from Windows, I would guess the harness is okay.
