Re: Bidding a fond farewell to Leslie West
RIP, Leslie...
September 1970, Boulder - Mountain played a free concert on the steps of the Norlin library. It was my first month at the University of Colorado. My mind was blown. I was a fan of the band going in, left as a committed fan. Leslie sang like he'd gargled with razor blades his whole life (that's a good thing). His playing was "soaring". Felix in person was better than on record and his recording was superb. Corky and Steve Knight killed. A guy from my high school in the Chicago 'burbs had also gotten into CU. I saw him for the last time at that show. We spoke briefly, he told me he was dropping out of engineering school and running away with the Mountain circus as a roadie. Where'd you end up, Jon?
