However, things like simple copy/paste, grouping/ungrouping clips, or shifting reels (option-H) seem WAY slower than they used to be under 11.

Example in a super-session with 200 tracks:

Shifting a 15-minute reel down the timeline before Conformalizing takes around 10-12 seconds before the command is completed and PT becomes responsive again.

Selecting a one second segment across all tracks and the hitting C or command-C can take up to 3-5 seconds before PT becomes responsive again.

Pasting the same segment sometimes even longer than that.

Grouping and ungropuping clips takes about 2 seconds.

Doing a "cut all automation" over a 2 frame segment across all tracks takes about 2-3 seconds.

These operations in an equivalent session were faster under 11 by factor 2-3 I'd say (non-scientific figure) on the same machine.

I know that people that have been on 12 forever always look at me as if I was talking Chinese when I mention this but when you jump from 11.3.2 to 12.8 the difference feels *huge* with regards to the above.

I hope this can be improved in the future.

Thanks

Frank.
Apparently this release has been focussed around macOS 10.13.2 and the GUI performance enhancements that brings with it, so that could potentially be why.

Just to clarify...
I'm on Sierra and I definitely get the HUGE speed improvement with regards to scrolling up/down, track resizing etc.

What I meant was that apart from the examples I mentioned it definitely feels like having a new super-computer in the machine room now but the operations I mentioned are *a lot* slower than under 11 from where I just recently moved to 12. So the speed increase seems to only affect GUI performance.

Or are you saying the things I mentioned are much faster under high sierra? Strangely the new HD driver that comes with 12.8.3 isn't compatible with high sierra (while 12.8.3 is) so I don't really want to try that at this point.

I just give a try to 12.8.3 today and the interface lag is away.
I also noticed that it also repaired the strange behavior i always had with pro tools 12 and Sierra : this combination made the send faders laggy and difficult to work with the mouse.
It's also away with 12.8.3

Seems a nice update for now.

I wasn't saying it is definitely the reason, but it could play a part. Odd about the HD driver not working on High Sierra.

I know there are lots of improvements with graphics handling in High Sierra, so it may be Avid have concentrated on taking advantage of the options available to them in the newer OS.

Again, nothing concrete to support this, just a possible explanation given what I know about High Sierra.

I can't find any info from Avid on the 12.8.3 HD driver not compatible with High Sierra.
Does someone has a link ?
