let region groups store automation PLEASE!! its killin\' me
Digi,
ok first of all... guys/ladies... i know its a "region group" so bare with me... Please implement this feature... region groups are very useful can't imagine how i worked without them but please let the region groups store automation... main reason: post people have conforms... where audio is slid around and things change timeline sync... kind of sucks to have to remix sections when you do a conform. icon users will be very happy as well... especially when they have a complex change list and they run a program like: maggot audio's conformalizer (which by the way is the absolute coolest thing out there) http://www.maggot.co.nz/software/conformalizer.shtml which automatically adjusts your sessions sync via EDL, XML, Change-lists etc. also updates your filemaker databases.. this feature will definitely please a big part of your user base. thanks much! |

Re: let region groups store automation PLEASE!! its killin\'
Hi Jim,
I read it as when he was using Conformalizer, not upon importing them into another session. I own Conformalizer and have re-cut several films and even re-balnaced 2 using it. Every session had region groups. Every sessions region group automation went with it. With the conformalizer you have to be in shuffle mode.

Ya, if that's the case, then it'd be a great implementation. |

Re: let region groups store automation PLEASE!! its killin\'
ok let me explain...further!
go into your session... region group a few tracks that have heavy automation.... cut the tracks and move them say 20sec ahead on the timeline.. now take out the trim tool and pull the file to the left... tell me if your automation is still in the file and correct... if so you are running protools 8... and can you send me a copy... my guess is you will find it is not! which leads me to wanting protools to cache the automation values so that you can always go back to what you had.. also for importing into other sessions...( ie rebalance or you have some guns you panned like crazy all over the place with some subsweeteners and you don't want to remix them again....) make sense now.. see the use for this. Automation follows edit is a very different thing... it does only a small part of what is needed... I do have it checked thanks.... This feature would be especially important for those of us who use vca's and the coalesce to groups option.. best.. |

Re: let region groups store automation PLEASE!! its killin\'
Hi Bryan,
If you are talking about trimming a region group, then, no, automation does not follow trimming a region group. It doesn't follow on simple regions either. It is annoying. But if I nudge or, cut and paste or drag a region group, then it does follow. And it follows when I use conformalizer.

If so, try sync point, it took me about two years to notice this great option. Instead of cutting the region group to a specific point, set a sync (Command+Period) point there. Place your cursor where it has to be moved. Cntrl+Shift+click the region and there you are, the complete region group has moved. Sorry if you already know this. Timothy |
