click track doesn't work (pt 12.7 / win 10)

hi everyone, i've just re-opened a session from a couple of years ago, which was made on a Mac with PT 12.7 and Mojave. that computer has died and i'm working on my wife's Win 10 laptop with PT 12.7 (& standard plugins) installed. Mostly things are working, but the click track doesn't make any sound. The Click II plugin is instantiated, and not deactivated or anything, but it doesn't show any activity when the transport is running. (Normally, it would count the beats and show the bpm in the plugin window; both are blank.) The recorded audio plays back fine, just the click is missing.

This is a track with a lot of tempo changes so it's really important to hear the click. Any ideas?

I've checked the routing (it's going straight to Out 1-2); tried creating a new click track; created a new session with *only* a click. Nothing helps so far...

Stating the obvious, but is your Metronome actually enabled in the transport bar?

good thought, but yes it is :)

AHHHHHH. it was set to click only during countoff! i knew it had to be something really stupid, a setting which i'd set once on the old system and then never seen again.
