Omni as headphone monitor

Hi,

I have PT HD 10 and the OMNI. I do not have the native HD card at the moment. (I am arranging the purchase of one.)

In the meantime, I would like to use the OMNI as a headphone monitor using the Optical IN (Toslink).

The meters read that there is information coming in, but I don't hear anything in the headphones.

You would need to have it hooked up via an HD card in order to configure the mixer to receive the Digital input for this to work (and make sure the Headphone button is selected in that software mixer channel). Once you do that, it will stay that way until you change it, allowing you to use it as a standalone D/A converter.

But you must first configure it that way by having it hooked up to an HD system, either TDM, HD Native, or HDX. Perhaps you can do it in a friend's studio who has that.

you can also do this from the front panel of the Omni. you have to select if the headphone out will mirror stereo monitor outs. the Omni manual is a MUST read and even then you'll go...HUH? well i at least i did...a lot...

But he must first configure the Omni mixer to receive signal through the digital ins, and to do that it must be hooked up via an HD card. He's stated he doesn't have it hooked up that way. It's not set up that way out of the box.

And the Cue button would not apply in that situation.

digital input selections can be made from the front panel. p41 of the Omni manual shows what can be configured outside of PT. and IIRC all inputs are monitored thru the mixer outta the box. it's when you wanna turn monitoring off for a particular input that is when you have to use the mixer from within PT software. at least that's the way i remember it when i set mine up...been awhile tho...
