searching for external hard drive Mac OSX with Mbox Pro2
A) I need help searching for an external hard drive for my Mac OSX with Mbox 2Pro. (I am currantly running Mbox Pro version 6.8.1 out of my Mac OSX version 10.3.9 Dual 1Ghz G4 Mem 768 MB) Oxford 911 with 7200rpm is what was recommended, but are there any specific name brands that stand out?
B) Should I update my Mac to Tiger 10.4 + ?? C) Is it recommended I re-install Pro tools into my Internal HD after adding Extr hard drive? Or do I install on extrnal HD or both?? Any special procedures there?? D) Also, will formatting my hard drive in my OSX lose/erase any data on my computer?? Does Initializing do that?? I would like to keep my pix, itunes music, etc. and not lose anything like that. I'm just trying to start somewhat clean. Other than several thousand songs on my itunes, and few programs my Mac is clean. I ran the first aid CD and showed clean! Sorry about the "bonehead" questions but I'm a non-techhead guit player somewhat familiar with Pro tools through my many studio excursions over the years , but finally had to let go of the fear and take the leap!! Been working with a couple books, mainly "The musicians Guide to Pro Tools" by John Keane. Quite helpful. I would like to find a more in-depth book for Mbox though. i 'll prob'ly search Amazon. Wouldn't hurt to learn more about computers as well!!! Thanks. |

A, I use Lacie BIG DISK and have used their D2 range, and have had no problems! don't use their budget drives though, porche and their mobile range. B. if you upgrade to tiger you will have to purchase an upgrade for pro tools 7 and upgrade all your plugins, plus you'll need more ram in your mac. so i wouldn't recommend it unless you want the new features. C. No need to do anything after adding another external hard drive! it is simply adding more storage space and won't effect pro tools or the Mac OS. D. If you format your system drive you will lose everything and your mac won't work any more!!
