mp3s don\'t LOOP properly
I have a short loop in PTs.
If I save as a SD file it loops properly in QT player. When I bounce it as a mp3 file the loop no longer plays without a hitch at the loop points. Any insight? jim |

Re: mp3s don\'t LOOP properly
Well jim, I've discovered that if you open the loop in say Peak, you will see that there has been extra "silence" tacked on at the front and the back.
~1234 samples at the front and 850 samples at the back. Maybe it varies according to mp3 bitrate and other settings. jim |

Re: mp3s don\'t LOOP properly
yes longo you are right about the other settings yielding different lengths of silence.
Does anyone know of a way to edit mp3s natively, without converting back and fort? jim. |

Re: mp3s don\'t LOOP properly
Hello...
This is my experience.... I've had no problems with Mp3s looping, as long as I convert the file to mp3 after I bounce... I first get the loop right/tight in Protools.... I then export audio/bounce to disk in the usual way... I then use a third party program, (Mp3 convertor)to convert to MP3... When I open these Mp3s in Flash, they loop perfect... BTW - I'm also interested in hearing about a program that lets you nativly edit MP3s... THanx |

Re: mp3s don\'t LOOP properly
Hello...
I would like to correct the above reply which I wrote.... It had been a while since I used Flash, but I realized that Flash only takes two kinds of audio formats....AIFF and WAV....MP3's are not one of them... Sometimes I lose track, when having to deal with so many different audio formats for each project... Forgive Me... BTW - I still would like to know of a native MP3 editor.... (Even though the Mp3 audio quality is a joke for most audio profesionals, it's becoming quite important in todays multimedia/interactive WebWorld...) Thank You |

Re: mp3s don\'t LOOP properly
The mp3 compression format is frequency based, not amplitude based, so files won't be the same length as the original pcm file. Also, mp3 files often have extra data added up front that can effect looping. Generally mp3 files won't loop - maybe you're just getting lucky with your other encoder?
