Default How do I create a drum sub mix?

I have four tracks of drums that I want to group together (which figured out). But I want to send those four tracks to ONE stereo "sub mix" so that I can compress all my drums overall. I figured out how to create a sub group, but I can only assign 1/2 or 3/4 to this one sub group. Maybe I'm doing it wrong. But the bottom line is, i need to get all four of my drum tracks fed to a two track stereo sub mix. I looked in the manual, and I just can't seem to figure it out.

Thanks for the help!

there are 2 ways. One if you want to use an outboard-effect and one if you want to use plugins.

For the outboard:
I assume you have connected your effect to output 7/8 and input 7/8.
Route the signal to bus 1-2 stereo. Use the stereo-bus to be able to pan each individual track.
Then create an aux-track and set the input to bus 1-2 stereo.
Then apply a hardware insert (same place as you would insert a software-plugin, just choose i/o instead) with channels 7-8 analog stereo.

For the software-plugin you do the same (send channels to a bus and create an aux-fader to get them back in) and apply the plugin on the aux-track.

Be aware of the fact that using the outboard-effect will create latency (delay), so you have to move the tracks of the subgroup to the left to compensate

Bastiaan,

Let's just for kicks leave FX out of it. Maybe I didn't word the question correctly either.

Basically, I have my drum machine split off into four tracks going into the back of the Digi (3,4,5,& 6). And I have four tracks in PTLE assigned as snare, kick, overheadL, and overheadR. Rather than have four seperate tracks w/ compression on them, I want to just combine all four of those tracks down to a stereo mix, then put compression (plug-in) over that.

Then if my snare is too hot, I can just pull the snare fader down... hoping it will apply to the output I'm hearing from the stereo mix.

I guess it's no different than a real mixer when I send those four inputs to sub 1/2 and insert compression via the sub input. I just can't seem to figure how to do that w/ software!

I saw on the "Be There" demo session that their drums were set up EXACTLY how I want mine, only the use like loops for cymbals and stuff. I have four tracks that I need to be combined into two. I can assign my sub to receive 1 and 2, but I only get ONE choice it seems. I can't tell my sub to recieve 1/2/3/4.

Sorry for the confusion. And sorry if I'm too stupid to figure out your reponse, if the answer is there.

Thanks!
Jason

1) Create a stereo Aux.

2) Make it recieve on any free pair of bus i.e bus 1-2.

3) Change the output to bus 1-2 of those 4 tracks that you want to send.

Now all 4 channels are going to that aux and you can insert your comp.

Jpop,
There will be latency. If you are only going to hear the compressed track you may be ok. If you want to blend the original and the compressed buss. I suggest you record the combined track as another audio track then shift it earlier until it lines up with the originals. You will see what I am talking about if you listen to both. The busses track will suck the life out of the original tracks cause it will be late.

The only reason I mention this is because I love to work with a real compressed drum submix AND the original tracks. I think it opens up the sound but, still provides the super punch everyone is into now.
