Quick clarification wi-fi
I'm seeing advice about turning off wi-fi during a Pro Tools session. Specifically, does this mean disconnect the wireless connection within the PC? Or turn off the wireless router?
I've got my operation set up on a desk upon which also sits the wireless router so I'm wondering if this is an issue. I'm thinking about maybe trying to find a different spot for the router (not easy but worth a try) or moving all of my equipment to my car and plugging it in to the cigarette lighter. This is not a good option for me because I smoke A LOT. Just kidding about the car. (not kidding about the router) |

Quick clarification wi-fi
You don't have to kill the router. Just disable wireless from the airport menu and you're good to go.

Or if your on Windows just open up Device Manager and right click the adapter and disable it.

Or you can just forget about it, if it doesn't make any issues :)

Re: Quick clarification wi-fi
I think that used to be more of an issue years ago than it is now, but Avid still lists it as a potential problem.

Re: Quick clarification wi-fi
On some rigs wifi needs to be disabled in the bios

Re: Quick clarification wi-fi
It is definitely an issue for me -- I've been getting some of the notorious clicking and popping that so many report. I found a forum recently where several folks said disabling wi-fi fixed it. I have not tried this fix yet but when I get time I'm going to test it.
I'm fortunate to have a button on my laptop keyboard that I can push to enable and disable wi-fi. |

Re: Quick clarification wi-fi
About that Wifi button, I think that only turns off the radio, it doesn't disable it in Device manager.
