Default Best way to record audio off a podcast

I either need more sleep or more coffee..not sure which, but perhaps one of you kind souls can tell me the best way to do this. I need to capture audio off a website podcast on to a PT audio track. I can probably bring up the podcast on my studio PC. But I'm not sure the best way to get the audio from that directly in to PT.

Or should I play the podcast off a separate device (ie my iPhone) and then just plug the audio into my interface?

I have permission from the Podcast owner to do all this, before you ask!

We just need to edit out some of it for use elsewhere, in shorter segments.

Thanks

I use a screen capture that comes with Corel VideoStudio that captures all the audio on my computer except for the programs that use ASIO but I would go with the phone and the cable.

Actually, I remembered that I have my PC audio routed through my Motif XS keyboard, which acts as an ASIO interface as well. The audio from that goes into my Focusrite interface via S/PDif so I just set up a PT audio track and selected SPDIF as the input, and its all good! Simple.

Like I said, I needed more coffee to think that through!

Awesome! I wouldn't be able to do that routing no matter how much coffee I've had!

You’re on a Windows machine correct?

I don’t know one by name, but there would be an app similar to Audio Hijack on macOS that allows you to record anything playing on your computer in real-time straight to your HD. You can even record specific app audio like a web browser and have system sounds not get captured.

Alternatively, you can usually get a direct download of the content if you put your browser in Page Source view and do a bit of sleuthing. Search for a file extension like .mp3 or .m4a and you’ll narrow it down much quicker.

The knowledge you seek is called “Stereo Mix”. If you chant that name to the Web search Gods, you will be enlightened.

I take the long way 'round My computer's sound card has an optical SPDIF out that feeds my Presonus Central Station. I set one of the front headphone outs to monitor that(at a low level) and patch into the DI inputs on a pair of preamps in the same rack. I doubt Presonus had this in mind, but I like making stuff do more than expected(like feeding 3 sets of speakers plus a sub)

You would!! I suppose I could use my Focusrite as my PC player, then use the the loop back to PT. But my way worked just fine.

If the podcast is uploaded somewhere you can download the source with Jdownloader - it's free

Copy any URL and it will grab anything that you can download. Use the clean installer instead of the one with ads.
https://board.jdownloader.org/showthread.php?t=54725

Also, you could do as already said and record the audio with a screen capture program. Both OBS and SLOBS will do this for free.

Voicemeeter Banana should work, it's also free.

Or the route you took, just plug in a cable

... just in case it helps any Mac users (appreciate this is a Windows question/post), I use Piezo from Rogue Amoeba (like Audio Hijack ... who also took over Soundflower, I believe) :)
