Default Thinking about Change to M

Been using PT8 LE for awhile now with the mbox mini and have started thinking about upgrading.

Of course I looked at a 003 rack but as I will be getting a new computer which means reinstalling all my programs again, I have thought about possibly changing over to M-powered for the "better priced" hadware and getting the firewire interface.

So for those of you who know whats up, can you give me the pros and cons and any personal usage feedback that you have about this situation.

Also, how does the Firewire connectivity workout on a rackmount I/O if Im using a new imac with only 1 firewire 800 port but one or possibly two external HD's that will also need the firewire.

Holla'

Default Re: Thinking about Change to M

HI

pros
- 96kHz on almost all interfaces, inkl. USB ( i think 3 in the entire M-Audio can´t do 96khz)
- up to 192kHz for most FW Interfaces with other DAWs.
- better sounding hardware
- much more stable drivers
- compatibility with Apple CoreSound (for use with other DAWs etc.) LE´s CAM is a PIA!
- easy hardware replacement to fit your needs
- all M-Audio products are still supported yet, not phasing out yet.

cons
- No DV Toolkit Option
- No Complete Option
- No Satellite Option
- max. 64 Tracks (mono OR Stereo) instead of 128 (mono) (LE) via Production Toolkit Option.
- no POWR-Dither included

for me the pros are dealy work issues, while the cons are merely cosmetic for me.

for FW800 to FW400 connectivity you need a simple adapter for $10 or something.

I switched to MP in 2006 an never looked back.

best

Default Re: Thinking about Change to M

Currently I'm running a new iMac with a single firewire port, 2 external disks and a projectMix I/O. Used a FW800 to FW400 cable to connect the first drive to the iMac (connect the FW400 port of the first drive to the iMAC in order to step down the FW800 port of the iMAC to FW400). The second drive connected FW800 to FW800 (drive to drive) with the PM I/O connected to the FW400 port of the last drive. This configuration has worked great so far.
