Default Which iMac

Just wondering what Mac you guys are using with HD Native Thunderbolt and Pro Tools HD?

The newest iMacs all seem to be i5 processors yet Avid recommend i7.

Are there any older Mac Pro Towers with a thunderbolt interface that would be compatible?

No but the older mac pros have pcie and you can use the cheaper native pcie card.

Some of the newest Imac can be upgraded to an i7 via the apple store.

Yes, as was stated, you will need to do the special order of the I7 versions through the Apple Store, either in store or online.

You will want to make sure you get the quad core version, not the dual core version.

And you will want to select an SSD drive rather than the standard fusion drive.

Basically, for best results, choose the highest price stock 27" Imac (at $2299), then upgrade to the 4.0 I7 processor, and then select either the 256, 512, or 1TB SSD drive. Keep the standard stock ram. You will want to add more of that, but it's cheaper to buy elsewhere, and is easily added by the user.

Wow! That's a lot of iMac just to run HD Native. I bought a thunderbolt to be more future proof but I think maybe the Native card would have been a better way to go with an older Mac Pro
