Question Recording quality suddenly horrible? PT8 - files in here.

I got a really annoying problem, my recording quality suddenly has gone down hill. Now all other sessions are fine the mbox is working the mics still recording but anything new is sounding far inferior to previous recordings. (Below is a recent session i opened and recorded on the same track before the verse kicked in to show the horrid new and the good old.)

Example audio acca - 1 (unmixed)

Audio example mixed

When i record with reverb and rcomp rvox on the vocal so i can hear it back as i'm recording it sounds fine however when the verse is done it sounds like eg. 96kbps does compared to 192 - i can up an example if that might help understand what is wrong.

I don't think it's my mic or my mbox and i haven't changed anything around either.....Any ideas?

Are you perhaps pushing the levels a little hard in the plugins?

No the levels are all fine even when the plugins aren't on there's a huge difference between how it used to sound and now..

I know you said you haven't changed anything, but I have to ask..

Any changes in mic placement/location? Is this recording being done in an iso booth?

The new (first half) of the recording sounds like there is a reflection off of glass, right near/behind the mic. For example, your microphone is in an isolation booth right near or backed up to the glass window.

It may be grabbing at straws, but that's what it sounds like to me.

Hmmm...

There is no "make my recording sound bad" feature that you would have turned on.. so I'd calculate that one of the pieces of equipment you have has become faulty.

To troubleshoot your problem:

- If your using Mic input #1, then switch over to Mic input #2.. any better?
- If you have a spare mic cable, switch it out and check the results
- If you have another microphone, switch it out and check the results

If you don't have a spare mic or mic cable, can you borrow from a friend or take yours into a local music store / pro audio shop.. Ask them if you can plug it in to their gear, as you may need to make a purchase if your cable or mic is bad.

If everything above checks out, then you can test your interface (Mbox) by looping some audio out of the unit, the back into itself.. Have a couple of tracks setup, 1 playing and the other recording.. Connect a cable from the output to the input. If it drastically changes the sound of the audio, your audio interface could be the issue.

You might also want to update those plugins...
