Default G5 Fans are revving up?

I don't know if it's a 10.3.8 issue or a TDM 6.9 one, but has anyone noticed the periodic fan revving up on the G5. I definitely didn't experience this under 6.7 or 10.3.7

It will speed up for about a minute and then go back to normal. In an 8 hour day I've noticed it happen about 4 times, but I can't put a finger on where to look for it.

Any suggestions?

Usually when tracking with a mic in the same room.
If it gets really loud, check for a thermal runaway in the log.

There is another issue, here, when a duel processers machine gets out of alignment the fans start making noise trying to allign themselves. I went thorough this and ending up replacing three different processor, Ram and mother bard. I hope this isn't the issue but but call Apple support and get a tech to check your machine. None of the hard disk tools will help you here it's a teck questons and it isn't fun. Since replace basiclly the guts of my Duel 2.0 it has run like a dream and no fan noise, I too cut vocals in the same room with my G 5.

Same here since installing 10.3.8 over 10.3.4 and I'm still in PTools 6.7cs8 .....so it looks like an OS bug; did not try 10.3.9 already, maybe they solved the problem......

Thanks for the input

The mysterious thing about this is the behavior didn't show up until i updated os / pt same day.

anyone else have this experience with 10.3.8 or PT 6.9?

the fans are software controlled and can go out of allignment..an apple tech can fix that...unfortunately ..had to take mine in ...now all is well.

just worked in a room yesterday where the house guy had just done this and i heard the fans doing that all day. towards the end of the day i remembered to set the processor to "highest" (it was set to auto) it stopped reving but it was the end of the day and it may have just been in a lull.

When you update the OS version, you need to check to make sure your processor speed is set to "highest" and not "automatic" - I believe this can be reset when you update.

If it's set properly, is it possible that the G5 is just getting overheated?

I will be paying very close attention to this, the curious thing to me was that the behavior didn't show up until 6.9 / 10.3.8

Be glad to report findings after a few days use

Thanks for the suggestions
