Default Pro Tools Composers VE PRO MUST HAVE!

I was really excited when Avid opened up Pro Tools to 3rd party hardware but was so disappointed with VI performance after using Logic for so long.

Even with PT10 I was almost ready to throw my 12 core Mac with 32gigs of RAM through the window when trying to compose with Pro Tools! Just a couple of VI's like Omnisphere and Trillian sprout error messages left and right!

I decided to try VE Ensemble Pro before giving up on Pro Tools. What a great program! I created a 64 bit server on my one machine hosting Kontakt, Omnisphere, Trillian, Stylus RMX, and Superior Drummer. These instances fully loaded only hit up VE Pro 25% and thats giving VE Pro 2 threads from my 12 core Mac with a buffer of 64! I could easily triple that with the same settings.

I auxed my server into Pro Tools and my performance meter in PT's was only at 6% running everything at once. My PT buffer was at 64(Apogee Symphony 64 card with Rosetta 800). Once again I think I could easily triple my VI's and still not kill Pro Tools.

This is great for Logic users also because you can use all of your RAM without using the dreaded bridge for your plugs!

Midi Performance is tight to! Great timing!

To me VE Pro is the only thing out there right now for serious composers in until we can transition to TRUE 64 bit(Host, plugs and all).

It's worth every penny to not pull your hair out!

I still expect Avid to step up performance with AAX to AU and VST. I hope in PT11 VE will not be necessary. I don't like having a midi and an Aux track for every instrument but I can adjust to get by.

Get VE Ensemble Pro and you won't regret it! It takes a little time to set up your templates but once completed it's well wort it.

I know there have been other threads about VE Pro but I just had to share my recent experience.

Before someone asks I don't work for VSL...

I've been a VEPro user since it came out being I've had VSL for a while; Yeah it's pretty much a no brainer; I just got done with a record where I was using 17g of RAM & of course that was all VI's pretty much & running PT @64 buffer without a hitch...
