Default SSC not supported in PT 6 with OSX ??? WHAT?

I know there is a thread in the SSC section that addresses this, but this issue is too important IMHO, and I thought it best to start a thread on it here so that DIGI might react !

I hope I'm wrong, but the product specialist in Montreal told me that SSC was no longer in Digi's plans, or not in OSX's plans... WHAT? Did I hear correctly? While most companies are just getting in the VERY important world of software samplers, DIGI decides to drop it! Again I hope I'm wrong. Sample Cell is VERY important. Many people rely on it. Digi, put an engineer full-time on this issue, and charge more money for it if you really have to to recuperate your investment. SSC by itself might not be such a money making venture, BUT, it keeps a lot of very important clients happy using their favourite digital workstation (IE Pro Tools...). It prevents from certain users going to Logic, or buying complicated non-integrated software. System integration IS a must. Ease of use, and don't forget you VERY loyal client base, which has been using Sample Cell for years. Did DIGI actually think twice before deciding to drop SSC? Even if SSC is not the end all be all of soft samplers, it's a GREAT addition to Pro Tools, and it's another reason why Pro Tools is still the most used piece of equipment in the Digital work station world. It's because overall, it's got great features, and one of those features is SSC. Don't let it go!

Thanx for considering the opinions of you clients. Remenber, the people who buy your product...

It's difficult to believe that (IF SSC isn't bound for OS X) Digi didn't know about SSC's end of life when they offered it up as a freebie in the HD upgrade package. What a drag. So much for SSC in our HD rigs.

Oh well, at least we got the free copies of Reverb One in the upgrade deal.

Yah John, but what about the people who traded their hardware Sample Cell II cards for SSC??? What about people whose productions depend on SSC? What about all the users who would NOT HAVE switched to PTHD if they had known Sample Cell would no longer be supported??? What about them (and me...)

I Ray,

I also heard that Softcell will not be supported in OS X. It is probably just a bad joke... I spent
a few months building SFX Library for Samplecell and I can't live without Softcell, I am sure most Post-production facilities are in the same position. How can Digidesign drop
a software that has been on the market for less than a year? So who's the funny one that
started this Bad Joke? Because it is a joke...isn't it?

You are better off geting Emagic EXS24 +ESB and you can sell that SSC over eby! that SSC does not worth investing more time and money on, smell this long, long ago...

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">I think there's a lot of truth in that. I had one of the Sample Cell I cards, but I didn't move to SC II. I considered SSC, but at the time, it seemed like too much, too little, too late.

With Digidesign, I think it's fairl easy to see when the thrill is gone about future development (e.g. Sound Designer II, MasterList, and now, apparently SSC).

There are, however, other alternatives. I mostly rely on GigaStudio and a rack of E4XT's (I've got all the inputs assigned in a Logic template, so everything is immediately there when I open a new session), but I'm probably going to pick up the new EXS-24 MK II. There's also Kontact, and others.

Depending on which direction you migrate, the Chicken Systems software might help you move your libraries.

In the long run, I think it's safer to get behind a sampler that has a lot of enthusiastic support from third party library developers, as well as the company writing the sampler software itself.

Digi: Would you please respond to this! We have an extensive SSC library and for the last year have only bought sample libraries in SSC format.

NONE of the translator software translates your libraries properly, so we need to know if we should cut our losses and move on to some other sampler, OR will you continue w/ SSC.

I'm not going to bitch and moan about your decision to stop support of SSC even though it is a rather new release of yours, but I think it will be VERY unfair if you don't let your customer base know they are throwing away their money on a product that will not move on to OSX.

Thank you for your prompt reply.

I agree that SSC is not the best soft sampler BUT it's there, I've bought it last year, bought full version of Osmosis to translate from S-760 libraries, worth $350.

What a bummer if Digi doesn't support it.

One more reason to switch from software/hardware company that has a very short support of good(but not the gratest) software like Sound Designer, Turbosynth and now(maybe) SSC.

Digi please respond to that RUMOR. Is it a rumor or not?

Doesn't seem that a loyal userbase is now important to DIGI!

along with ray/michael c
i am a long time sc/ssc user. i have a ton invested in my library and evey session i open, opens with a ssc bank.
please digi give us something here.
if it's gone then let us know.
it will take me months to open all of my sessions and figure out what to do.
this is not a hobby/this is my work. everyday i open older sessions for tv/radio spots that use ssc. i never know what project i will need on any given day. these sessions need to open/add a quick new vo, then off to tv/radio stations they go.
i need to know along with everybody else.
the folks expressing concern on this site and the ssc site were the first one's to buy ssc.
we helped you launch this program.please at least throw us a bone and let us know what's up.
any info would be most appreciated.
thanks
