Default SSL XLogic Alpha-Link vs 192HD

I finally requested a quote to upgrade my PT7.4 HD2 with 1x 192I/O to PT11 HDX with 2x 192HD.

Is it worth considering a PT 11 HD Native setup with SSL XLogic Alpha-Link convertors in combination with a SSL Delta Link (MADI)?

I am concerned about
  • Sound quality
  • Latency
  • Convertor build quality
  • Stability
  • Compatibility
  • Noisy fans of 192HD
The SSL setup has a lower Total Cost of Ownership, but if there might be any concern, I have no problem to spend the extra money for the 192HD convertors.
The SSL has some obvious advantages like no internal fans for cooling, more I/O count and cheaper.

Thanks for your comments!

If it's new spending you're talking about, keep in mind that the 192's go EOL in about a year and a half...

Just rockin'...what more is there?

Yes, it's new spending. I will replace my blue 192I/O by either the new 192HD or the SSL Alpha Link.
I don't know the date by when the current 192HD will be EOL.

Thanks.

In my history with the Delta link, it likes to drop clock reference from time to time when opening a session

What is this 192HD you speak of? There is the old 192 I/O and the new HD I/O

I got indeed the good advice if going for the SSL AlphaLink to use an external clock (e.g. Crane Song HEDD)

It is the current 192HD I want to buy:

I can trade in my old blue 192I/O which will go EOL soon.

Thanks.

You aren't getting it, it is not a 192
It is a HD I/O

My Delta Link was externally clock, that was the problem
Conflict between the House Clock and the HD cards clock would send the Delta Link into a mute state, would have to hard boot the Delta to get it back

My Delta link is externally clock by an iZ ADA II and I've never has any issue's. But if you're looking for a great converter, the SSL AlphaLink SX sounds pretty amazing.

Did you had the possibility to compare the Avid HD I/O vs. the Alphalink?

Thanks.

Both options are worth taking.

The new HD I/O has better conversion than the old 192.

SSL´s Alpha Link is a fantastic good converter considering the price.

If you´re going HDX, there is no point in buying the Delta Link though, just get AVID´s own HD MADI unit and connect it to the SSL Alpha Link.

Another option is DAD excelent AX32, but that comes at a price. Although an AVID MADI HD and an SSL Alpha Link price summed will be around the same.

I need 32 analog IN and 32 analog OUT. So I was thinking to buy 2 new HD I/O convertors.
I have still not decided to go HD Native or HDX. If I go for the DAD with 32 channels, it might be more pricey than 2x HD I/O?
I am wondering if someone is using PT HD Native or HDX with a DAD convertor already here? Latency and quality is important for my setup. HDX would be the logically choice than (for the latency)...
