Default Help! MIDI Notes Shifted!

Recently my MIDI has encountered a problem. Whenever I open an instrument track, whether it be Xpand, Mini Grand, etc. it as if the highest key shifted to the middle of the keyboard. So when I play the last key all the way to the right, its soo high pitch that its ear piercing. So the lowest note I can play is the middle note that you would hear on a properly working keyboard. I uninstalled Pro Tools and reinstalled it and still having the problem. Any ideas how to fix this?

Computer: Dell Optiplex GX520
OS: Windows XP, SP3
Audio Interface: Mbox 2
MIDI: M-Audio Axiom 61
Pro Tools Type: Pro Tools 8.0 LE

It is. My setup has worked before. It started doing this after I cleaned up my hard drive. I never had this problem in the past so I'm not sure what the issue could be.

I'm going to be critical here and say that just because your system has worked previously does not mean that your computer is listed on the Avid Audio Compatibility list. Can you show me that that Dell Optiplex GX520 is listed on the compatible systems list?

Windows XP Service Pack 3
April 23, 2008 — Avid has officially qualified Windows XP Service Pack 3 with all products listed as qualified with Windows XP Service Pack 2, including systems with Avid video. There are currently no known compatibility differences between systems with XP SP2 or SP3. All compatibility information regarding Windows XP Service Pack 2 also applies to systems with Windows XP Service Pack 3.

Pro Tools 8.0 is officially qualified with Windows XP with Service Pack 3 (not tested with SP1 or SP2).

That is all I could find on that site. I've never seen an Avid Audio Compatibility list.

I've done some digging and that OptiPlex GX-520 runs an integrated Intel Graphic Media Accelerator and that's a big no no in the first instance. Pro Tools requires a dedicated graphics controller. Also Intel Celeron processors are not supported. And the Intel 945 Express Chipset might be incompatible too.

You will not get support for any system that is incompatible. You would be better off getting yourself a system that is up to 'current' compatible specifications.

Thanks filososfem. Is there a website that can show me what to look for when searching for a computer that is good for Pro Tools?

You mentioned this happens when you hit a key and I don't think you meant that the notes on the score are transposed?

Is it possible that you've accidentally transposed your AXIOM 61 ? ie. did you shift the keyboard up/down a couple of octaves?

When you touch the transpose buttons on the left side of the keyboard the display should show the number "0".

While you're at it why now make sure that you've chosen the compatible Program 15 for use with Pro tools.

Just a thought
