Re: What's so special about clip effects?
Quote:
The whole point of clip FX is to be "temporary" just like all the other plugins, except on a clip by clip basis. Yes you can do the same with AS but that requires more actual steps. So like many work flow options it has the potential to save some steps and thus time. If that is "special" or not ,is totally subjective not objective. As far as compatibility it seems that any session with clip FX on will actually play back/with those FX on a non Clip FX system. But the clip FX will not be editable. Here is an excerpt from PT expert: Although this is an HD only feature, for easy and smooth collaboration and interoperability between any Pro Tools system, Avid have made sure that when you open a session with Real-time Clip Effects in Pro Tools Vanilla, users will be able to playback with those effects, you just won’t be able to edit or modify them. However Vanilla users will be able to choose to Bypass or Render the clip effects. When the session returns to an HD system it will again be possible to edit or modify the clip effects. Also if you have no problem rendering the AS adjustments, then you should have no problem committing a clip that has FX on it either, and that would also make it compatible with any system that does not have 12.6 . It's just a work flow option, like many work flow options it's usefulness varies depending on the individual and is subjective , if it "feels pretty un-essential" to you then it does, but that has no bering on how useful it may "feel" to others.

Re: What's so special about clip effects?
Dialogue editor here:
I think of clip gain and clip fx as like a pre-premix. Getting clips so that they're basically "right" before any automation is written or choices made. Audio suite could do it but that's not tweakable in the same way. It looks great to me.

Re: What's so special about clip effects?
If you're doing post it's a very useful feature that unfortunately needs further development of its present implementation to reach its fullest potential.
