Re: Any advantages going from High Sierra to Mojave? Mac Pro 2012 Pro tools HDX
From my experience, I NEVER update the OS unless and ONLY unless if a newer ver of PT requires it. If it is working, mix away and keep everything the way it is. There is always something that doesn't work, or a need to now update this plug and then another software which now is not supported on the later version, etc, etc. My system is in my sig, and the ONLY reason I went to HS was because PT 2020.5 required it. However others might chime on some pros and cons of going to M from HS.

I updated my Mac Pro trash can from High Sierra to Mojave about a month ago. I really haven’t noticed that anything has changed or that Pro Tools HDX 2020.5 has been better or worse. But I don’t do projects with high track counts or more involved/complicated stuff like surround, etc. I do use quite a few VI tracks and the single upgrade that has made the biggest for me so far was upgrading my CPU from 6 core to 12 core. If you can’t stand seeing a reminder from Apple on you system settings icon to upgrade to Catalina, then maybe stay on High Sierra!

Re: Any advantages going from High Sierra to Mojave? Mac Pro 2012 Pro tools HDX
There are no advantages as far as Pro Tools is concerned at this time, however being on Mojave will almost certainly be a requirement at some point for a future update for Pro Tools, as dropping support for older OS's is normal when major updates are made to Pro Tools, or any software for that matter.
You obviously would gain all the features and benefits that were added in the OS in Mojave, and you can find those listed online. I would recommend that you use an extra drive to install Mojave and Pro Tools, and see how it works while keeping your High Sierra drive intact, just in case you don't like it or something goes awry. Also, keep in mind that your Mac may require a firmware upgrade to run Mojave (if it isn't on the latest firmware already).
