Rather get the info before breaking seals on cards, etc...
Working is not the same as working optimally. I’d rather know before proceeding.
I am really hoping somebody can chime in. Flight, are we go or no go?

Go.

HDX is supported on original cheesegraters which never had PCIe 3.0 and because HDX3 is supported even the PCIe 2.0 4x slots will have to be enough

All the tech talk in this thread is about taking maximum out of the new M.2 NVMe storage, which is bottlenecked by cheesegraters' PCIe 2.0 spec unless you know which card does the trick.

HDN/HDX has nothing to do with it. Regarding those cards, lowest common denominator is spec of worst PCIe slot you can find in a Mac.

Also the mod from Sweden told me to use slot 3 for hdx. It helped in the past with 9073 errors in the cheese grater.

One last question and then I’m diving in.
Will I be able to install Mojave to one of the ssd drives on the dual switcher adapter without any extra setup or are there extra prep steps needed?

Thanks again for everyones input. I have read every thread on the subject, but as the years pass the pertinent information changes. Things that didn't work in the past now do. It’s hard to keep it all straight. So, thanks for not saying look it up for yourself, believe me I have.

I think so. I was having computer freezes. My hdx was in slot 2. He (or another mod) told me to use slot 3. Fixed my issue. I have since then always used slot 3. I even put the eb7 pcie card in slot 3. For my hdx3 system.

I think the installer disk image needs to be on a SATA internal disk for the update install. I'm researching updating to mojave as well with one of these m.2 setups.

I have the Mojave installer on a USB stick. My plan was to install High Sierra on one of the SSD sticks and then boot from the USB boot stick Mojave installer to update the SSD drive to Mojave.
