Default Pro Tools 11 MIDI input problem.

Hi, I have just installed 11 but I am unable to play the supplied instruments with an external MIDI keyboard.

It works with Pro Tools 10 and Logic.

The hardware and MIDI setup menus look identical in 10 and 11.

The keyboard is coming through standard 5 pin cable into an M-audio Audiophile firewire box.

Any ideas?

Cheers for any help.

Hard to say. Its working fine here with my 003. I just opened Setup>Midi>Midi Studio in PT11 and imported the setup that I save in 10(FWIW, I also keep a folder on my desktop called PTsettings. In there is where I save midi setup and my IO settings. My reason, if I trash prefs or remove PT for any reason(like to install a newer version). my settings are retained in a handy location.

BTW, the Midi/Instrument track may need to be set for Record-ready(red button lit) before anything works. My Midi work here is almost always done with stereo Instrument tracks, with a plugin VI inserted(always in the top slot or slot A). I also use midi tracks, but not for the "normal" function. Because Pro Tools does not handle midi the way it handles audio with playlists, if I want to save a take, I copy or drag the midi info from the Instrument track(that I am recording to) to a midi track that is muted. This is just so I can save the midi performance, just in case

Have you checked for any updated drivers for your keyboard?

Thanks Albee1952, that made it work.

So is this a bug? The manual does state you can play an instrument by selecting the track or record arming. My experience differs between PT10 and PT11.

I've noticed something in PT10 and I think it also happens in PT11 demo: when you click to put the start position pointer (playhead) at a certain point in time all the tracks are selected and you can't play anything from a MIDI connected keyboard unless just a single MIDI or instrument track is selected. I'll get out of this by clicking with the hand tools anywhere is the track I want to play and then that single track is selected and you can play from your MIDI keyboard. Maybe this is happening to you?

Not seeing that here. There may be issues with certain AXIOM controllers, but my rig has been pretty smooth.

Might be a Mac only issue. Not a major problem, just annoying.
