Default Problem with Plugins-No Plugins?

I have created a project using a Template in PT First Version 2018.7
Sounds good BUT why don't Plugins work? I have read the manual which describes how to insert plugins which is useless as when added to a track they render the track silent.
The Plugins provided are Xpand!2 which work on the provided Drum and Bass Tracks but not on the tracks I recorded.
I've read that there are FREE Xpand!2 Plugins available in the "Marketplace"
but the Plugins will not load into the Marketplace window (just keeps buffering)
Getting totally frustrated now and considering trying other DAWs which I believe to be more user friendly

XPand is a virtual instrument. did you record midi or audio (ie with a microphone or guitar/bass DI) on those tracks? You should be working on an instrument track with XPand, not an audio track.

Yes, thanks Darryl, I realised my mistake after posting.
I am trying to add effects to an instrument ie Guitar track, I now realise Xpand only works with midi tracks, sorry

Xpand is a virtual synth and not a track effect. You need to use plugins like delay/compressor/eq/saturaters/flanger/chorus etc for effects and Virtual instruments for sounds like piano, drums, bass what have you.

So ”VI” goes on a Virtual Instrument track and plugins like those i posted on Audio tracks with an audio source already recorded..

No other DAW will be easier as you have to get the basics the of inthebox recording before you start working so youtube videos etc are a good source.

And if this is the free PTFirst version you can only add plugins purchased from Avid store Or Avid Marketplace. No free stuff from internet or magasines will work in PT First version.

PS. I am moving this thread to the PT First section of the forum as this is for full 2018 version of PT.
