pre-fader/post fader help
I have a Triton Keyboard connected to Pro Tools with MIDI connections and an audio connection. When I press play in Pro Tools the beat begins to play. I hear a sound but I see no signal on the meter. When I press stop, and then hit a key on the keyboard I see a signal on the meter. I want to be able to hit play in Pro Tools and audition the sound by seeing a signal. Why do I see a signal when I hit an individual key on the keyboard but don't see a signal when I hit play to play the track? I have the record enable on and I've tried post-fader and pre-fader metering options.

Re: pre-fader/post fader help
The fader in Pro Tools affects the playback but not the record level. My recommendation, though, has always been to UN-check "pre fader metering" because I'd rather see the actual level in the track (POST-fader). Are you in "input-only monitoring" mode?

Re: pre-fader/post fader help
I don't know if its input-only monitor mode. How do I check that?
And also, if I can't see the level then how do I audition the sound before I record it? |

Re: pre-fader/post fader help
Hey, I switched it to input-monitor mode and then selected the pre-fader option and now I see a signal when I click play. Thanks.

Re: pre-fader/post fader help
Depends on your setup...I can hit "record" and see the levels and adjust them at the console before I ever record. You can go to "track" on your menu bar and see what mode you're in.
Alt-k toggles between "input only" and "auto input" mode, but I just tried it on mine and I can see the levels either way. |

Re: pre-fader/post fader help
Is your equipment MIDI synched with Pro Tools? On my system I see a signal either way only when I press a key. But when I hit play in Pro Tools to play the keyboard I see a signal one way and not the other.

Re: pre-fader/post fader help
I have no MIDI of any kind hooked up yet. Strictly analog in.

Keyboard, guitar, or some other instrument?

Re: pre-fader/post fader help
Strictly analog in, I feed 1-8 on my 002R with the 1-8 outputs on my Mackie 8-bus.
So of course, anything that goes into the console can be routed to anywhere in Pro Tools. Yes, keyboards, guitars, mics, E-drums, etc. But no MIDI yet. |
