Need help with midi mapping
I have pro tools 8 LE and BFD Lite. I also have the yamaha dd-55.
I dont really have much of a knowledge in MIDI and I'm trying to hook up the dd-55 so I can use it with BFD. I have a MIDI cable going "out" from the dd-55 "in" to my mbox 2 . Im not sure what to do next. I think I have the mapping part down for the most part on BFD but no sound is coming out of it. Do I need to have 2 MIDI cables, one going "in" to the mbox from the dd-55 and one going "out" from the mbox "in" to the dd-55. If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated. As I said I am a newcomer to midi and so I apologize for any stupidity in this post. I only think I know what I'm talking about |

This should do it, but I dont have an mbox. With my 002 there is the MIDI Setup window or whatever its called to setup instrument channels. That might need attention, the Reference Guide is good at explaining it. Also Reference Guide good for how to monitor and route midi. You should only need one midi cable to control pro tools from a controller. Mike.

Re: Need help with midi mapping
Hi. I'll see if I can answer this, as one of the audio guys at Guitar Center walked me through the same thing. Here goes...
Connect DD55 midi out to MBOX midi in Connect DD55 midi in to MBOX midi out Connect two 1/4" cables from DD55 audio out LR to MBOX in 1 and 2 You should then be able to set up one midi track, one instrument track (stereo) and one audio track (stereo) and begin recording. Hope that helps. |

Re: Need help with midi mapping
I have a midi cable going from the dd55 out to the mbox in. Im not sure how to set it up so I can hear the sounds through BFD. Can anyone help me with that? Please remember that I'm new to MIDI so If you know how to and can tell me, Please explain thoroughly. I tend to need to hear it clearly to fuly understand it. Thanks again for all your help. I really cant begin to tell you how much I appreciate it

Re: Need help with midi mapping
A few things to consider here. 1-no midi will find its way into your session until you go to Setup?Midi?Midi Studio and create an instrument(the dd55) and select the post where it's midi will enter(the midi input of the Mbox). Then, you only need a stereo instrument track(this track combines midi and stereo AUX). You don't even need quarter inch cables from the dd55 because you are wanting to use the sounds from BFD. Insert BFD in the top insert slot on the instrument track(must be slot A). Put the instrument track in record ready and hit pads on the dd55. Do you hear anything from any pad? If not, try taking BFD off and inserting MiniGrand(give it a moment to load). Now do the pads play any sound?(the reason to test with MiniGrand is; it should make a sound from any pad on the dd55 because it has so many notes available. 88 notes vs. maybe 2 dozen in BFD). If none of this is working yet, I suspect a midi problem so open a midi track and put it in record-ready. Now when you hit pads, do you see the midi track meter moving?

Re: Need help with midi mapping
Thanks to everyone I have it at least being recognized. What I cant seem to figure out is how to get the sounds of the BFD drumkit to play when i play on the dd-55. I don't know much about MIDI or MIDI mapping so if anyone has successfully done it before that would definitely be the best way for me to understand it

Re: Need help with midi mapping
Its all going to happen in the dd55(or its maybe not going to happen at all). AFAIK, you have to set the midi note number for each pad on the dd55, so each pad with trigger the desired drum sound in the plugin. Alternately, open the plugin and see if you can assign sounds to different midi notes than the default(which is a question for BFD, not Pro Tools).
Here is the page of the dd55 manual that should help you out: http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x...2/dd55copy.jpg

Re: Need help with midi mapping
Try my suggestion of NOT changing midi in the plugin. Do it on the dd55
