Interesting, check out this:

http://www.integrate-computer.de/epa...oducts/EX-1025

ExpressCard to 2xPCI + 2xPCIe. I'd be curious to know if this works with MBP + HD...

According to the UAD forums the euro chassis has trouble in the power department.

It would not work with more than one card.

Someone managed to swap out the power supply with a more powerful one and that seemed to address the problem.

I use the 4 slot magma with the PCIe host card on a Mac Pro and it works fine with protools.

I could imagine it having problems with higher track counts/sample rates due to the limited bandwidth but it's suits me fine.

AFAIK the pericom chipset on the newer magmas is the difference between compatibility and incompatibility.

I think the Exsys/virtuavia (euro chassis) uses the Texas instruments PCI bridge chipset.

I still haven't heard a definitive verdict on whether the euro chassis works with PT or not.

I have spoken a couple of time with the people trying to get this to work. There are problems and a few dealers here in germany state that it will NOT work with PT. Sad but true.

I really want to see a youtube of someone eating a mouse.

I found a thread on gearslutz about a similar setup, or is this the same thing This one is just the board and PCIe host card. You supply your own ATX power supply and case, so the power is not an issue:

http://www.virtuavia.eu/shop/pci-e-t...?&currency=USD

According to one of the replies on the thread, it will work with Pro Tools cards(of course this could mean it only works with digi 001 for all we know):

Don't know if you're still following this thread, but how are you getting the Magma into the Macbook Pro? This would be very interesting to me - thanks!

Model number doesn't tell the whole story apparently. Mine doesn't even have a model number listed on it, but it's a 4 slot PCIx (Pericom) It's the internal chipset that counts. Here's what Jill at Magma wrote to me:

Hello Scott-

Thank you for your inquiry. Yes, with the release of ProTools 7.4, the problem of not getting more than 1 ProTools card to work with the MacBook Pro was fixed. Basically, any chassis that was purchased from MAGMA within the past 2 years has the Pericom chipset. If you are not sure when the chassis was purchased, you can run a quick test to check to find out which chipset the MAGMA has.

While the chassis is installed, use the following steps to determine which chipset:

On a Mac:
Open Apple System Profiler

DEC = Vendor ID = 8086 or 1011

Pericom = Vendor ID = 12D8

Windows:
Start – Control Panel – System – Hardware Tab – Device Manager – Change view “Devices by connection” – Open PCI Bus

DEC = DEC

Pericom = PCI-PCI Bridge

Please let me know what you find out and I’ll help you with the steps you will need to take.

Regards-

Jill Kohlhorst

Has anyone been able to verify whether or not the german expansion box works with HD?
