Default Running a 3rd 192 I/O? Help!

I'm in a pickle..

So I bought a 3rd 192 I/O.

Just realized that it doesn't seem possible to run 3 192's (blue face) from 1 HD card. I should've done some research first.

But now, since i have the 3rd 192, what would be my solution to getting it to run? I would guess I would have to buy another HD PCIe card, but would i just simply install it, and plug the 3rd 192 into it, and then would it sync up with the other 2?

Yes, your only solution is getting another card. You also need to connect both cards to two interfaces, because you can only daisy-chain two. Also the three interfaces must have their loop sync cables connected properly.

Thank you J,

So i leave the 2 interfaces connected as they sync with each other (coming from the 1st PCIe card).

Then I install the 2nd PCIe card, and run the 3rd 192 off of that, right?

Oh, would I run the loop sync cable between all 3 of them?

Edited..

Yes exactly. Loop Sync is just what it says, you need to loop all your interfaces so they share same clock.

First card connected to first interface, daisy-chained to second interface.
Second card connected to third interface, possible to add fourth one.

This thread seems lost in utter confusion. I think JFreak is assuming you have a TDM HD system. When somebody says "HD PCIe card" to me that *is* a TDM card, do you really mean that or a HD Native card?

You cannot use two HD Native cards in a system.

Lets start with guessing you have a HD Native card since you signature says you are running Pro Tools 12. That gives you two Digilink ports. Each Digilink port provides a total of 32 x 32 IO.

A 192 IO box consumes 16 x 16 IO. So two IO boxes per Digilink chain. Two chains per HD native card = 4 boxes total. You cannot chain more than two boxes per chain. Ain't enough TDM time slots to allow that.

Get any new box running by itself first to confirm it works. If there are problems *always* run Digitest, *always* suspect Digilink cables.

All the stuff you need to know is covered in the product documentation.

Thank you Darryl. Yes, I'm running HD Native, not TDM, and I do have the card with the 2 ports like you mentioned.

I did read the manual, but it didn't really give the insight that you did :)

Good that Darryl pointed out, because the "HD cards" really are the old TDM cards with one bigger digilink port. HD Native has two new smaller digilink ports which is same as having two HD cards.

So you do not need (and cannot use) second HDN card. All you need is connect third (and fourth) interface to second digilink port.

And 1 more Digilink>minidigilink adapter. I ran 4 interfaces with my HDN system(pair of HD IO and a pair of 192 IO) and it all worked great. No issues mixing the different boxes, but as said, Loop Sync forms a complete loop thru all of your interfaces.

Thank you guys so much, but now I'm getting only 44.1 sample rate, with all other options greyed out in the Hardware Setup. All my sessions are 48k!

This came about when I updated the firmware on the 3rd 192 because it wasn't recognized. I checked all connections, cables. etc. My other 192's worked no problem, but this most recent one didn't.

So, I ran the Digitest, restarted, and ever since then I can only run 44.1k on any of the 192's..Help!
