Default Harpertown Mac Pro and HDX

I am ready to order my HDX2 from my local avid dealer, and he is saying my harpertown mac pro (PCIE) won't work with HDX.

Is this true?

I would like to find out the definitive answer on this before I place my order.

He seemed to think the cards would fit, but I would hit a "wall" somewhere inside the system. What would this wall be?

TIA

Thanks, that is big news to me. I guess I'll have to wait for the next generation of mac pros to surface before I can update to HDX. It wouldn't be prudent to purchase a mac pro with a new generation slated to come out next quarter...

This is one really big reason pt 10 for tdm should not be $1000...

Huh?? Really?!? Jeez I'm glad I read this thread! We were just about to buy a last generation Mac Pro!

But, they will work in a 4,1 and a 5,1 Mac Pro, correct?

The Mac Pros have to be Nehalem or later, which would be the current models (Westmere included, of course) or the previous generation, which were all Nehalem.

So…HDX will work in a Harpertown Mac Pro until you have to do a firmware update on the card?

Is this an automated process? Can HDX be used in a Harpertown Mac Pro perhaps for a while until the new Mac Pros arrive?

From the sounds of things, the Harpertown Mac Pro is a no go on all accounts. If you plan on moving up to HDX, you're best off selling it and putting it towards a newer machine.

The official word came yesterday from Max Gutnik. Please see his post, #234, from this thread over on Gearslutz: http://www.gearslutz.com/board/aes-2...upgrade-8.html
