Start/Stop
It seems that every time i hit the space bar to play or to record, Protools starts and then stops automatically, it usually takes about 3 times before it will start playing or recording. The transport shows it play and then stop instantly. Why is this happening? Is there a way to get this to stop. Its incredibly annoying.

We really need to know which numeric version of PT you are using to help you. There is a semi-pseudo fix for this in the latest version, but if you aren't using 7.3, recommending it wouldn't really help you.
Another known solution is to delete the Pro Tools prefetch file from C:\Windows\prefetch

I'm having the same problem. This is my first time using Pro-tools M-powered 7.3.
I just bounced my drum tracks from Live into protools, but when i try to play back, i have the aforementioned transport problem, except for the "3 or 4 times"...mine just won't play. [update] i quit live, restarted pro-tools, and it works... is this a bug? |

I'm running 7.3.1 and didnt seem to have this problem before. Anyone know the reason for it and how to fix the problem?

7.3.1cs3 is supposed to have a fix included, but it hasn't worked for everyone.
As mentioned already, deleting the prefetch file is also another fix that has worked for some (including me occasionally).

Fixes in 7.3.1cs3 Fixed: Attempting To Play From The Beginning Of A Session May Fail (Item #85674, 93283, 93289) - After the play command, the Play and Stop buttons flash, but Pro Tools does not play - Repeated attempts may result in a successful play Note: Pro Tools 7.3.1cs3 fixes some, but not all occurrences of this issue. Digidesign will continue to investigate additional fixes for this issue

I'm also encountering this issue, however it is not limited to the beginning of the session (00:00:00), it happens at random times regardless of where I am in the song. I'm running 7.3.1cs3, and have tried deleting the prefetch file, but the problem remains.

I had a midi keyboard that had turned it self off and this was causing this problem. Just FYI.

I am totally upset with Digidesign for not having corrected this issue. When I hit record (F12) my insert/cursor line jumps back a measure or two and record does not engage, but the record light flashes. I hit record (F12) again and the insert line jumps back another two measures. The third time I press record (f12) protools begins recording but at a point begining two measure back again. This is not acceptable and is a defect.
I would like everyone who has this issue to email me with similar issues so I can send a letter to Digi demanding they correct it or refund money to us for our inconvenience. This is clearly a product defect and if there are enough of us I promise I can make them listen and get them to address this immediately. dguidry Attorney at Law Class Actions, Maritime, Entertainment Law.
