Buying second hand hardware, registration
Would there be any problems buying used hardware (with free PT 8 upgrade/download) if this hardware/software is already registered by the previous owner?
Ownership must somehow be transferred, no?

Its not a problem, and its not really needed unless you are buying a DIGI002. The reason to transfer registration of the 002 is so you can get a free power harness if/when it fails(Digi gives them to registered owners. Go to the Buy/Sell thread and read the second post for more info

Since you did not buy it new, you will not be given a free upgrade to PT8. Since you would need to purchase PT8 anyway, you would register the PT8 purchase and I would recommend buying the hard package instead of downloading. The download takes a long time, the cost is the same, and you would have a nice retail DVD to keep on a shelf. You could choose to run the 7.4 software that comes with the hardware. Doing a transfer for that would allow you to download the cs updates and there's nothing wrong with 7.4, its just missing a few goodies that you may not need(at least for now).

now the og owner can download and give the new owner a copy of 8 and the activation code.
this is assuming that the og purchase was inside the window of for the free upgrade
