They should offer some sort of upgrade price for those that bought the Upgrade Plus of PT LE 7, since Smack and the noise reduction plug in were part of the original package and it's lame as hell to charge for the 7.1 upgrade when many of us purchased 7 within the last month and are still wary of installing it due to reported problems. Maybe $100 to $150 less? The PT7 Upgrade Plus should at least count as a $100 down payment on this Music Production Kit thing.

Sounds like total marketing scam. "Here's your software... Oh, if ya want to have the really good one that's stable, cough up the $."

Come out with PT7 that doesn't work as well as previous version, then charge more for the fix. (Hey, 48 tracks this time)

AVID .... all the way to the bank. In bed with Microsoft. Unleash a worm, and then sell the software to fix it.

AVID, remember, you first came out on a mac! PT too. What's this showroom with all the PCs?

I'm sorry AVID bought PT.

Don't forget this part of the press release (posted in another thread)

"Digidesign Music Production Toolkit will be soon available for $495. A special offer will be announced soon for recent Pro Tools 7 buyers"

Who knows, maybe it won't be so bad. And I would assume there would be some way to update to just LE 7.1 (w/o the new bundle) for extremely cheap if not free, seeing as how pretty much everyone here bought PT7 less than 3 months ago. I'd be a little surprised if it is another paid upgrade for PT7.0 owners, although if it takes another month or so to come out they might be able to squeeze $25 for it. Let's not forget they're just "previewing" it at NAMM right now, I haven't seen a release date on any of these articles, but I am very happy to see Digi responding to some customer requests from the DUC, let's hope that trend continues.

I would imagine that if people can upgrade from 6 to 7.1 for $495, if that's possible, I would imagine that those that purchased 7 would get $75 off, or those that purchased the Plus upgrade would get $100 off... that makes sense. I am certainly not holding my breath, but I will buy it either way.

Kudos!!

I think the upgrade to 7.1 will be free to those who bought 7 and others follow similar rules to upgrades thus far.... I mean i think their would be a backlash if we were asked to pay anything given 7 has been a PITA for some of us.

This musicians toolkit is a seperate product much like its namesake the DV toolkit. It includes an update to 7.1 but apart from that it isnt the update to 7.1 everyone will have to get. Do you really think they will bundle THAT with an mbox 2 (unless it costs you $495 more

I think Digi will come out with a reasonable offer for all those that just shelled out $100 a few months ago... I just hope 7.1 adresses MR 9136

Default Re: protools 7.1 LE

expensive and not exactly supercharging?

more like drying out limp lettuce

DV toolkit? Wah!!! where's my surround for a whopping $$$$ 1295 ?

Other software like DP already has all those features as standard?

auto scrolling
universe bar ( well you can use the tracks editor like this)
OMF in and Out
Unlimited tracks
PLug ins and excellent freebie AU's like ambience ( please donate to him if u do use his software !!)
Surround
window sets ( and you can set your own keys to recall them - infact set all your own keys IF you want to )
Time code..... gulp! we need to have a TDM system for that..

the only thing that DP is lacking really is digibase - and the fact that I am more familiar with Protools....

I already use LIve over Protools for any music editing work I do - I have sometime before my next post project - think I will doing some practice with DP.....

The only lines with which digi is progressing satisfactorily is the split off with pro-tools M-powered thingy.. at least they are starting to seperate the software from the hardware.. Which seems to suggest that they are aware that processors (and competitors) are capable with out developing external DSP cards...

I am afraid I must agree
I am extremely loyal to Digi...but programs like Logic and DP, that allow you to do 5.1 surround mixes for example, are becoming more and more popular(as if they weren't popular already)
I have a number of clients doing major motion picture scores using PTLE and 002 hardware(yes, it is absolutely possible)but many of them are switching to Logic because they can do 5.1 mixes through the 002 hardware.
I believe the reasoning for not including it in LE is probably to encourage people who need it to go to HD...however that certainly is not happening on the whole. Many are just using other software.
The good news is...You ABSOLUTELY CAN make commercially viable product using LE and LE hardware! You just might have to go elsewhere from time to time to get specific things done. It may be inconvenient, but realistically, in the long run, its a minor issue.

Another thing no one has mentioned is it supports both M-powered and LE on the same system so you can mix and match as you need. Not sure if it means you'll have to have two seperate installs of PT or it will simply support any approved interface, but it's something to note.

here is an analogy:
one guy is driving a mercedes benz - he loves it because it handels the road like a king , it drives fast and smoth and it gives you some problems but they are minor- you pay allot becuase you are on a mercedes - and you know what it means...when you want luxary you pay for it and even if it not the merceses 500XLS elegance model it is still a mercedes

second guy bought a nice Mazda - it takes him from A to B you can drive fast with it but you must not forget the bumps on the road it handels the road very nice but not all ways as smoth as you would have liked it to be- it is the best model of Mazda with all the accsesories and all the best finish.

now for those who cant read between the lines:
no one is forcing you and me to use protools - there are allot of platforms out there that kick ***** and cost less - so why we are still here.....? well we prefer having a mid range mercedes becouse after all it is a mercedes that is based on the High level model with some limitation - and sure when you wanna upgrade womthing important on your mercedes it would cost much more then upgrading your mazda???? wouldent it?
we use protools for the same reason all the big boys and big studios have adopted this softwere/system and it became what it is- it is the most easy - intelegent - and gracfull pltaform out there - heak- no one has forced big producers to switch from a good old tape and a big desk in to protools - but they have all done the transition- because you get the job done the easyiest and unlimited way.
why would it bother people out there to buy 16 more tracks - for 500$??? we are asking for it since 2002!!! so why cant we once say just thank you digi- becasue for those 500 we get allt of stuff (including real beat detective and sound replacer)
so what is your problem - that it costs like half of a full Logic pro 7??? go ahead and try editing some Audio on Loigic - you will see-
and i am not saying any bad things about it it is a great softwere if you are in to synth's and midi - but there is a reason why all those people are using protools and not logic...
and yes it costes 3 times more then DP and gives like half of the option.... well.... get your mazda 626 with all the gadets and be happy with it
i will stay with my mercedes - E320- maybe one day i will have the $$$ for the 500 SLX i always wanted but untill then i am still holding the whell of a mercedes - and when i go to a garage and i add a sun roof i know i have to pay for a mercedes sun roof because once again .....i am on a mercedes and for the time being- when ever i am going to the Racing stadium/Recording studio
i dont need to make my mazda/logic/DP look and fell/converted because i have a mercedes and here ....well here in the studio/Racing tracks ..... every one digs mercedes.

for the really cool guys who really wants to repaly by saying that no one uses mercedes for racing..... i'll say i know i know- but you can catch my drift....
