Re: 5.1 file channel order

And it was wrong. They updated it today to where it is right. But previously it had the incorrect information and it has been that way for a very long time. There's saving face but no one was confused between exporting and importing. The internet never forgets:

Re: 5.1 file channel order
If you are referring to the last QA in the article ("Not at this time.") then yes, that was incorrect so was updated today. Our tech also added 7.1 info in the first QA pair. I guess it would have been more accurate if our tech said "Other than that last QA pair..."
Any other feedback on that KB article? Also, would it help to merge threads to bring this all together? Thanks.

Re: 5.1 file channel order
Merging would be good so this isn't rehashed a third time.
The one line in the QA that should be changed is this one: Quote:
Right now it is open to interpretation when there is actually no choice.

Re: 5.1 file channel order
Totally agree with Bscout. This has been the subject of so much pointless debate, occasionally verging on argument, when in fact it’s 100% clear, defined and non-optional.

Re: 5.1 file channel order
Thanks BScout. You bring up a good point. Best to not leave it up to interpretation. I think it’s in Avid’s best interest to release a specific document detailing all the channel orders Pro Tools outputs for specific file formats and widths.

Re: 5.1 file channel order
Striking the first sentence helps. The second sentence is convoluted in it's "A uses B when doing X and B = C therefore A uses C" approach.
So changing Quote:

Re: 5.1 file channel order
Jeffro,
One can further expand on that answer with.... “When exporting AIFF files, Pro Tools uses (insert channel order here) order up to 5.1 and when exporting Quicktime files, Pro Tools uses (insert channel order here)up to 5.1. Then go on to detail 7.1 channel order. Thanks. |

Re: 5.1 file channel order
What about changing the code so that users can choose what channel order they want to export to, despite the format? I think that it would make much more sense.
