Default Re: Using PowerTowerPro w/ NewerG3/333 -- OS9 or 8.6???

Shuffle your PCI cards. Someone posted earlier..(can't remember which forum) about having trouble with those errors on a 9500 with a G4 upgrade card. (9500 and PowerTower Pro use same motherboard..basically).

He solved the problem by switching slots with between his 001 and his UW card.

Try moving things around..see if it helps.

On 3 slot boards...all slots are basically equal. doesn't matter which slot anything goes into...one doesn't have priority over the other. But on 6 slot boards...there IS a slot order priority.

Some video capture card makers have specific instructions for slots on a 9500.

Wish I knew the info off the top of my head..as far as slot priority..but...a quick shuffle of them..should produce some results...that you can gauge.

8.6 tends to be less of a resource hog. I would recommend you try it.

As far as slots go, the 9x00 macs have two PCI bridge chips, one controlling the top three slots, and one controlling the bottom three slots. If you have another card that uses a lot of bandwidth (SCSI, etc) try putting it in the other set of slots. I believe, but could be wrong, that items in the top most slot in a set get more priority.

Since you didn't give full details I will just mention that you should make sure you have a drive dedicated to the audio files. In my 8600 I have the best luck if that drive is on a different bus than my startup disk.

Hope this helps.

Default Using PowerTowerPro w/ NewerG3/333 -- OS9 or 8.6???

I sometimes get the -6045. Has anybody had any luck by using 8.6 instead of 9.0? Thanks.
