Default Hardware inserts during tracking?

I usually use my patchbay as a mult with rock vocal tracking and take an uncompressed out from a 1073 to one track, patchbay mult into a Distressor recorded to a second track, and monitor the Distressor track.

Can I accomplish this with a hardware insert DURING tracking without printing the insert or adding much latency?

Thanks!

Yes.

Audio track records whatever is fed to the track input. Inserts always happen after that. Plugins and hardware inserts do not differ in any way in this regard; the signal just flows out of the box, then back in again, but it's just processing. Like inserting a plugin in a hard way (pun intended).

Additional latency for the i/o trip is not much. You need additional DA/AD conversion but it is not that much. And if your inserted hardware is analog, that does not add latency at all.

Should work fine. A hardware insert may even cause less latency than a plug in. If you work with an external console I'd recommend to insert the distressor across the monitor path instead to avoid additional converting and latency.

Just curious, is there a reason you don't want to record the distressor? Might save you some time in the mix...

Just a thought.

Duc,
I think you should stick with your signal flow .
It's only two units to recall . . and re A/D, why go , in, out, in . . record ?

:)

It gets messy on comping. There are bugs that don't let both track comp within their own playlists like they should when linked edit is enabled for the group.

This has been the case since PTHD9. Currently on PTHD10.3.2.

Okay record to a stereo track, Insert split stereo gain plug-in UnLink the channels, Mute one side and pan to Centre. Now you should be able to comp with ease

😃
I've done this in the past with gtr amp front & rear mics… balancing them in the gain plug…
