Default Kontakt w/ PT8??

Hey guys,,, a while back I asked if anyone had found a way to use the ILIO Orchestra software, which is VST only, and not playing well with FXpansion!!! SO,,, I would like to hear from you what it is that works WELL with PT8, and is quality like the ILIO product??? I checked out the Kontakt orchestra, (not sure of the spelling?), and although the demos sound a little week (not the depth of ILIO) it (Kontakt) seems to have the same type of sampleing techniques as ILIO. But it seems to me I read that Kontakt is not yet up to speed with PT8?? Is this still correct, or am I wrong? Also if there is an orchestra VI that you really like, sounds like the real thing,,, would love to know about it!!!

Any help, or opinions, would be very much appreciated!!! I have great hardware (keyboards), but the demos of trills, scales, slurs, forzandos, ect. through out the intire instrumentation are no different than a live orchestra CD!! Absolutely blows my mind! And never thought it could happen??
Thanks a bunch,,,,,,,,,, Mike

I hear ya,,,,, for me,, its gotta be 88 (hammers that is), mostly white with soom black!! I do work with a 30 -35 piece orchestra on a fairly regular basis, and so, for solo instruments (live), I have a few really good ones to choose from!!! But for recording?? Too much potential for many long hours in order to get a good orchestration take?!! I much prefer to trust my own 10, on the 88 at home, and am very excited about what I've been hearing in the VI world!!!
As for the 6 or 7 strings, I tried that for a few years, a long time ago! But found that the paine on my left 5, and the final results of callous's clicking on the 88, made me rethink the time spent on it when I know so many who are so much better than I!! So,, I sold the 6, and all the wood that was around them???

Thanks again,,,,,,,,, Mike

I've been very happy with my Eastwest GoldXP. I don't use the Play version though, sounds like there's been a lot of trouble with it.

I would assume you can still get the non-Play version.

Miroslav orchestra by IK Multimedia will also work. It's basically the sampletank engine, which is compatible with PT8. I don't know if the east west Symphonic Orchestra sets will work with PT8, they are licensed versions of kontakt or intakt, and I know that NI stuff has some compatability issues that need to be worked out still, and I don't believe the fixes will include kontakt or intakt engines. But, again I don't know, I have not tried those out. This info is only what I've read, I don't really have a backup system to check these things out.
I do know that Pro Tools 8 will start acting real buggy, and start giving random buffer errors if there is an incompatible plugin in it's folders. I was using Kontakt 2, and getting errors every 20-30 sec. Hope this helps.

Glad you like. I personally haven't had any trouble with mine but like I said I don't use the Play engine. I also try to stick with Digi approved computer hardware.
Personal taste I suppose, but I didn't really like the Miroslav stuff. If it's in your budget you might get more mileage out of the Eastwest PlatinumXP version.
