Default Pro Tools 9 is a SHAME for HD users!!!!!

Ok, let's face it, now those of us who spent thousands and thousands in a so called "Pro" software will now have HD cards that will sell for peanuts and no benefits at all using HD cards!!

Well, thank you very much AVID for making no difference between LE and HD users, now you'll have the exact same features... that's a shame!...

Since there's no longer a gap between LE and HD, there's no reason to call it "Pro" anymore. The new Amateur Tools is nice for personal use, not Pro. The good news is that we're all going to spend our money on hardware now because the soft won't offer the clients anything they can't get at home!

I'm very disapointed because I've worked really hard to buy my HD rig 6 months ago and now it's worth nothing, I mean you'll have the same feature with an MBox?!
This is not fair...

If I were client-facing I'd have HD of some flavour in a heartbeat.

Could you please explain why you would still use HD? What would you offer to your clients they can't get? Don't you think is better to have a lot of outboard?

Outboard is just one aspect, and nowadays that's almost a personal preference.

But imagine that you're under pressure to finish a mix, you've got 100+ tracks, tonnes of plug-ins, instruments both real and virtual, everything is nearly there, and then your client tells you they want to overdub a vocal passage. The vocalist is sensitive to latency. Making that work on a native system is going to be nigh on impossible without disabling loads of everything, and potentially ruining the vibe of the track. You'll have to explain to the talent and the producer perhaps why you can't do that overdub without making a lot of changes first.

Score recording and film mixes are another area where HD will rule king... they are SO EXPENSIVE on a per-hour basis because of the number of people involved and the amount of tech required. One CPU-held-off-processing error might cost a grand, or more, because you've blown a take. Not to mention the hardware video integration and Sync I/O options that HD gives you still that PT9 doesn't...

In any case, HD is still a terrific investment in many circumstances, and I don't think it's going to disappear at the high end.

Bedroom guys with HD might be pissed off, yeah, but the top guys doing stuff for money under pressure in front of very demanding clients every day are not sweating at all.

Nonetheless, 350 $ for having just more tracks/buses and the possibility of working on a laptop with no hw seems a little pricey for us HD owners. At least they could have included Heat in the upgrade.

Your fear of this drastic improvement belies two probabilities.

1. You don't have enough work now. (no shame, many of us don't) And you fear that you will have even less with PT9 being more comprehensive.
2. You think features are what gets you hired.

No matter what your rant is based on (I would be a little miffed had I bought HD/hardware new 6 months ago, but if you are in a client driven environment that investment should be long paid off. IOW, if you have not made 15k in 6 months...) let us know how that Sonar pays off for you. ff
