Much, much higher. All iMacs and MacBooks have Thunderbolt, and school just started. There are thousands and thousands of students with Pro Tools 9 on their laptops with an unused Thunderbolt port.

My guess is that the only reason Avid hasn't announced a Thunderbolt product is because the Mac Pro's were delayed until next year.

Why do it when Magma already makes one? HDX in a Magma chassis= what you are asking for.

And if you think this will somehow be less expensive than just a PCIe card, you're crazy. Avid would have to design and build what amounts to an expansion chassis and you're going to pay them to do that. Think it through like a business person would.

over 4 million thunderbolt equipped MacBooks sold in the last quarter

http://www.appleinsider.com/articles..._3m_ipads.html

...not sure where 500 came from?

"Integrated HDX processor on board (no PCIe card or external enclosure required for HDX features)" = the HDX processing capability is built inside the OMNI-2 which is marketed as a HDX system cornerstone device free from traditional PCIe architecture / form factor requirements.

the future is inevitable

But what a great dream!!! Been wishing and hoping ever since TB came out! But my dream looks a little more like this.........

OMNI-HDX-lite
1/5 power of HDX
Near zero latency
Supports RTAS with PT10
Add 8X8 adat I/O

I would be so IN there!!!!!

Does the PCIe card even work with this Thunderbolt setup yet, let alone a card we havn't even seen yet.

What are you guys talking about, there are already devices to connect PCIe cards via Thunderbolt.

http://www.sonnettech.com/product/th...olt/index.html

They are coming out with a 2 Card PCIe Thunderbolt device. You could use this.
