Default firewire daisy chain?

I have: IMAC LION, Protools 10, Mbox Pro, 2T G-drive hard drive, Yorkville monitors.
I have connected the G-Drive to IMac with firewire, and connected MBox to G-Drive.
Mbox often is not recognized by the Imac or else as has happened lately the IMAC tells me I need to shut it down and restart.
Have I hooked this system up wrong?
If I don't use the G-drive things just work great, except I want to record to the G-drive.
Any other suggestions?

I had issues Daisy chaining my ProFire 610 with both a G-Drive Mini, and then an OWC external. Didn't matter which drive I tried or which order they were in. I had this problem on both a 2010 iMac i7 and a 2011 MacBook Pro i7. Had errors in both Logic and Pro Tools. I gave up and put my audio drive on USB instead.

Crazy enough, I had no issues chaining on my 2010 MacBook Pro Core2Duo. My only thought is to blame the chipsets in the Macs, but I dunno.

Daisy chaining can be a crapshoot. Plenty of people will say they chain anything and everything without issues, and some, like me, will say its not gone well.

Although Avid recommends putting the interface (Mbox) last in the chain, some people have better results instead putting the hard drive last in the chain, so you may want to try that and see.

And always eject the drive, or shut down, before disconnecting as a safety precaution against disconnecting while data is being written(or you might corrupt the data).

Which MBox is it? If its the MBox 2 Pro it doesn't support firewrie 800 and would need to be first in the chain. So computer - FW800-400 cable - Mbox - Hard Drive.

It's an Mbox pro? It is last in the chain. The hard drive is firewire 800, not sure about the Mbox.

Firewire is peer to peer so try a firewire 800 repeater hub.

For FW400 devices, use an 800 to 400 cable.
