Thanks David. Everything in your post describes my setup to the T. Unfortunately, It has proven that somehow my ISP has all incoming FTP and HTTP ports blocked. Whether this is done at my modem, or further down the line, I'm not sure, but it just won't work over the cable modem. It works fine over my old dialup with no problem. However, all problems have been solved by simply taking my setup to the studio I work at. Unlimited bandwidth and as much storage as I have room for. It's also nice to be able to install whatever services I want on that computer for hosting our pages and files.

Thanks for the incredibly detailed explanations. Perhaps they'll help someone else set up a system.

I think that's the case, as I can't even send e-mail with Outlook to my old ISP, but all the profiles for my current ISP e-mails work fine. When I dialup instead of using cable, they all work fine. I think they are blocking ports, and claiming security risks and compliance with the new terrorism task forces recommendations rather than just coming out and saying that if you want to do this, you need to get a different plan from either them or someone else.

you can get around this port blocking by setting your server and router to use a different port for www serving, like port 8000 or something. then, get your name server to forward to your IP with the port attached like this http://12.34.56.78:8000

I tried that DB, but just couldn't find a port that would work. I just gave up after a while.

I have a little test page up now, and just readjusted all my port forwarding on the router. Perhaps someone can check and let me know if they can see it or not.

here it is:

Well, this is a test over port 8000. It would be cool if it worked. Maybe someone on the DUC will see it this time!

Thanks dB. My ISP must have a range of ports blocked. I just picked 8000 just for the heck of it after reading your post. I figured one more try wouldn't hurt. What do you know, it worked. I guess I'm a happy camper now. But I still think I'm gonna bring the server up to work so I don't have to worry about bandwidth problems.
