Default Question about the 64-bit float

The 64-bit float offered by Pro Tools HD (now Ultimate) is useful for processing.

But is it also useful to:

1) the recording
2) consolidation of clips and other PT functions like transferring a clip to a file
3) parallel recording (a track records other tracks)?

This if no plug-in is used.

(I translate the terms of French, there may be some inaccuracies)

64-bit is used only by the mix engine. The maximum file depth is 32-bit.

There is no sonic difference among versions.

FYI ?

So for 64bit floating point processing, you need the Avid harware?

No, the exact opposite. It's all the same.

There is no 64 floating point processing.

All versions of Pro Tools have 32 bit float processing. And all versions of Pro Tools have 64 bit summing.

Hardware does not matter now for Pro Tools' engine whether running HD native, HDX cards+interface, or with a third party audio interface.

Ok, so Pro Tools does not have that:

Looks like snake oil to me. Can you hear any difference? Does it matter? Give me a great performance of a great song where the recording stays out of the way. Worrying about this stuff is(my opinion) a waste of time

Most plug-ins employ 64-bit float processing. I believe the native Waves Ren Eq. was the first. Pro Tools has a 32-bit float signal path between plug-ins and the mixer is 64. Pro Tools LE was the same. I've been a bit shocked by recent claims by the competition of this being a new feature. Samplitude has had an 80-bit mixer for more than a decade. I haven't found it to sound better than Pro Tools provided proper dithering of the output is employed.
